Natural gas Transmission & Distribution
GASCO is a pioneer in promoting the utilization of natural gas in Egypt through its presence at every point of the Egyptian gas chain. So natural gas transmission & Distribution is the core of Gasco mission focusing on urging and encouraging the use of natural gas, serving different industries and sectors to replace liquid fuels by natural gas as a clean fuel while making gas available and affordable ensuring satisfaction of the local market requirements of natural gas according to the plan of the Ministry of Petroleum .
By the end of year 2012 the total average of natural gas distributed through the national gas grid reached 149 MMSCMD against 36.5 MMSCMD in 1997 achieving development rate amounting 407%
Development of Natural Gas Quantities Distribution (1997-2012)
GASCO consumers are almost everywhere in Egypt covering different industries and sectors in both local market and export. By the end of year 2012 the number of direct customers to GASCO reached 469 Customers.
GASCO is keen to maintain customer satisfaction through providing the best service providing prompt response to any complaint to ensure the quality of service. We have built up our customer trust and managed to set new standards in efficiency and commitment satisfying the needs of different sectors.
• Local Market
During year 2012, 51.933 BSCM of natural gas were distributed to the local market as follows:
- Power Generation Sector
This sector has always been the major consumer in terms of growth rate. GASCO supplied gas directly to 30 power stations in addtion to 9 power stations including 8 for Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) and the 9th is fed off grid. These stations consumed about 58 % of the total quantity of gas distributed locally. In the coming few years, about 14 new stations are to be supplied with natural gas.
- Local distribution companies (LDCs)
Second in consumption rate of natural gas in Egypt, we have 13 LDCs distributed all over the country, which in turn supply gas for domestic, commercial, industrial sectors and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations as a vehicular fuel. The quantity of gas consumed through Local distribution companies represent about 20 % of the total quantity distributed locally ( without their power stations )
- Industrial Sector
Third in consumption rate of natural gas in Egypt, we have 371 industrial factories (Iron & Steel, Fertilizers, Cements, Ceramics, …..). The quantity of gas consumed by this sector is about 12 % of the total quantity distributed locally.
- Petroleum, Petrochemicals & Methanol Sector
Fourth in consumption rate of natural gas in Egypt, we supply natural gas to Natural Gas Processing Plants to extract gas derivatives and valuable components for the Petrochemical industry, in addition to using natural gas as a fuel for petroleum refineries. The quantity of gas consumed by this sector is about 10 % of the total quantity distributed locally.
• Gas export through the National gas grid
In 2003, Egypt joined the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) with the inauguration of the Arab gas pipeline to operate 5 power stations in Jordan, power stations and industrial areas in Syria and Deir Amar power station in Lebanon. The pipeline will be extended to Turkey.
In 2005, Egypt began exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Seagas plant at Damietta.
During year 2012,2.431 BSCM of natural gas was supplied through the natural gas grid to export sector.
