The national gas grid: Precious property
The largest and longest in Africa and the Middle East, the National Gas Grid is the source of our pride and our precious property as it provides the vital link in the value chain between gas producers to consumers keeping gas flowing to the different sectors making it available ,accessible ,and affordable. The grid has reached the furthest point of the south valley in Aswan and is extending east to Sinai and along the coast of the Red Sea, north to Lebanon and Syria with potential to reach further. Because the demand for gas is getting higher, the supply imperative, the expansion inevitable, we are developing and delivering solutions while maintaining full flexibility of the grid to meet this rising demand for energy. The grid comprises the following components:
• Gas pipelines: Pipelines, lifelines.
Aware that piping gas is the best way of delivering gas to our consumers, we are very keen that the grid reaches its peak transmission capacity to cater for present and future demand applying mechanisms to avoid potential weak links in the grid . Our transmission capacity which has reached 205 million standard cubic meters per day by the end of year 2012 compared to 37 MMSCMD in 1997 . This is due to increasing the length of the grid to 6965 Km of trunking lines against 2800 in 1997.

• Metering & Filtering Station ...
GASCO has about 150 upstream Metering Stations for filtering and metering gas deliveries through the national gas grid.
• Pressure Reducing & Metering stations ...
The national gas grid supports about 458 gas consumers. GASCO delivers Gas to consumers of different sectors in accordance with specific pressures through reducing and metering stations.
• Sectionalizing Valves...
National Gas Grid is protected by a large number of valve rooms (about 481) for securing network crossings of Nile, canal and railways crossing for the protection of long distance lines of the national grid, about 207 of these valve rooms are assumed to be connected to SCADA in SCADA extension phase 2.
• Gas Distribution Centers...
They are chosen geographically all over areas of the network (Amereya, Abu Qir, Talkha, Shabsheer, Suez, Dahshour, Mahmoudia and Sharkaweya) to provide the best operational services.
• Terminal Stations...
There are three terminal stations in the national gas grid located in El-Tina West, Abu Sultan, and Sharkaweya
