ETHANE /PROPANE MAXIMIZATION PROJECT
With a thriving natural gas business and with much development potential still to be found in the petroleum sector, special attention is given to petrochemicals as an engine for national development, Gasco gas processing plants feed the petrochemical industry with its feedstock and raw materials namely, ethane, propane .Due to high demand on our products we are undertaking project that enhance our capacity and maximize recovery through the introduction of specific proven intervention to optimize utilization of available resources and infrastructure facilities with a view to satisfying local demand for petrochemical products while exploring more opportunities for export . The best example of these projects is C2C3 maximization Project from Western Desert Gas Complex (WDGC) and Amerya LPG Recovery Plant
The project aims at increasing the production of the C2-C3 by introducing some modification in both Amereya LPG recovery plant and the WDGC in addition to the installation of new facilities at both plants . Turbo expander technology will be utilized in both plants to maximize C2and c3 production. The projects scope of work will also cover modifications to upgrade the existing process facilities and utilities at both plants.
The project aiming to transmit gases produced from Raven field to the Western Desert Gas Complex and ElAmerya LPG Plant to compensate the expected decrease in western desert field gases feeding the complex (WDGC) and ElAmerya LPG Plant, and this to maintain the level of produced derivatives to meet the needs of SEDPEC and Ethydco companies from ethane/propane mixture, in addition to producing propane which will be pumped to propylene producing plant that is under construction by SEDPEC company, with continued local market support of Butagas.
The project includes 2 pipelines 70km/30" and 5km/18", in addition to 2 compressors to increase gas pressure before entering the complex (WDGC), it is planned to finish execution of the 2 pipelines in January 2020, and the compressors in August 2021, with investment cost 145 million $.
New production facilities were installed with design capacity of 300 cubic feet per day to produce additional 700 thousand tons yearly of ethane/ propane mixture , 208 thousand tons of commercial propane , 254 thousand tons of LPG and 480 thousand barrels of condensate through increasing recovery of ethane from 54% to about 82 % and propane recovery from 92% to 95% .These facilities include heat exchangers ,chilling unit ,turbo expander ,demethanizer and its accessories and sales gas compressors , depropanizer and its accessories, debutanizer and its accessories.
The project is planned to pass through two phases
The 1st phase to maximize the C2/C3, propane and accordingly the LPG and condensate by treating 600 MMSCFD in WDGC and the C2+ liquid coming from Amerya LPG plant through the 12" integration line between the two plants, This Phase was executed successfully in Ocotber 2010
The 2nd phase is to increase the WDGC capacity to process the extra discovered gases of the Western Desert which will be increased by 300 MMSCFD. This phase was completed in 2nd quarter of year 2011. this project (two phases) will increase the production from both WDGC & Amerya LPG plant as follows:
|Products||Quantites - MT/ Y|
|before running the two phases of the project||after running the two phases of the project .||after running the ethylene factory|
|Total /million Tons||1,3||1,6||2,2|
Total investment of the two phases is US$ 392 million
